Editor’s notes
The structure is the hook. Two short, harsh flashbacks tell the viewer how her first two lives ended, so the crown-tossing scene plays with full knowledge of what the men will do. When both of them step aside and the crown lands in a slave's hands, the whole crowd freezes, and the staging makes the setup feel earned.
