War God’s Fiancee

The opening is a trial in which a crowned official coughs blood and a woman is left bleeding on the temple steps, so the stakes are set before any backstory. Then it becomes a puzzle: Ares keeps looking at Serena as if he knows her, names her his personal attendant on the spot, and speaks of a fiancée while she listens. Hera's scheming is broad, but why he finds Serena familiar keeps you watching.
